Jackfruit Seed Powder

Jackfruit seed flour is perhaps one of the most valuable and most underrated superfoods in the modern era. Jackfruit has been mentioned as a deva phalam (Divine fruit) and a kalpa vriksha in the Hindu texts with each and every part of the tree used in the medical, domestic and industrial sectors. This sacred tree is revered for its medicinal, healing and nutritional properties.

Bharat is the world’s largest producer of jackfruit with an annual average of 1.4 million tonnes. Odisha, Kerala, Assam, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh are the top producers of jackfruit in the country. As jackfruit grows in the wild in abundance across all districts, almost 80 percent is channelled to food processing industries.

Jackfruit seed powder is a rich source of dietary fibre, protein, carbohydrate, Vitamin A, B6, C and folic acid, potassium, magnesium, iron, copper, zinc and calcium. It is an energy booster, improves immunity, eyesight, skin, hair, cognitive thinking and digestion, prevents anaemia, controls the blood sugar and cholesterol level and strengthens the bones.

Jackfruit seed flour can be used to make chapatis, bread, biscuits, energy bars, porridge, health drink, chocolate and sweets. As it is gluten free, it is an excellent substitute for wheat.

Jackfruit seed flour is ideal to combat malnutrition as it has been marked down as a complete planned food (can be served as part of the government – run morning meal in rural areas).
