Madhusudhan Temple, Mungthala Village, Sirohi District, Rajasthan

Madhusudhan Temple on Abu Road in Mungthala is a lesser – known ancient temple of immense spiritual and religious significance. It is however unclear when the temple was built and by whom but the weathering of the stones, layout of the temple and some carvings and panels suggests that this temple is of great antiquity.

The exterior, interior and shikhara of the temple are profusely decorated with gods and goddesses, stories from the Hindu scriptures, musicians, sages, apsaras, dancers, floral and foliage motifs and auspicious Hindu iconography. The highly ornate entrance doorway with tiers of carvings exudes charm, elegance, beauty and delicacy.

The sculptural art seen in this temple is a visual masterpiece and speaks volumes of the artistic mastery and excellence of that period. Lord Vishnu has been consecrated in the garbha griha as Madhavo Madhusudhana.

This temple has been impeccably maintained by the locals who revere Lord Madhusudhan who has made this place His residence centuries ago.

There is an old stepwell within the temple premises. A majestic torana from Chandrawati has been placed at the entrance.
