ratnānām padmarāgo-asmi… – Bhagawan Shree Krishna, Srimad Bhagavad Maha Purana (11th Canto, 16th Chapter, Shloka 30)
kaustubhākhyam-abhūd ratnaṁ padmarāgo mahodadheḥ… – Srimad Bhagavad Maha Purana (8th Canto, 8th Chapter, Shloka 05)
As per our Hindu scriptures, at the time of the Mahā Pralaya, the entire gamut of creation (universe along with animate and inanimate beings) is completely submerged in the ocean. When creation commences, the land mass emerges from the unfathomable depths of the ocean slowly and along with it the divine gems that have remain hidden for thousands of years.
These precious gems are unlike any other, with a unique brilliance, an inherent potency and a majestic beauty carved by the Creator Itself. Now, our Hindu scriptures state that these dazzling gems have been in the possession of the Nāgas since the ancient days and therefore, carry their resplendence.
These same gems are then mined on earth years later, a part of the universe that has an unbreakable bond with serpents and therefore, their sparsha (touch). These gems are extremely sensitive to touch and react accordingly owing to its own creation within the ocean.
Hence, it is advisable to place these gems in cool water in a glass tumbler or cup or bowl at the end of the day and wear them the following morning. Gems are highly individualistic and emanate energy based on their own radiance.
As they have tremendous absorptive capacity, a great deal of caution needs to be exercised while selecting the gems. The gems need to be clear (almost transparent), lustrous with light reflecting in its inner surfaces and blemishless (very minute particles inside). The darker the gem, the greater are the impurities and hence, greater is the effort and time required to purify the gem (to unleash and experience its entire power/force).
Gems have proven to be excellent mediums and tools to improve one’s concentration, overcome rage, anger, stress, trauma and depression, stabilize one’s physical, mental and emotional health and to treat many diseases.
Here are a few of the most valuable and rarest gems in the universe:
Padmarāga – Red Sapphire
Kaustubha – Red Ruby
Vaidurya
Lapis Lazuli – Blue-red colour
Panna – Emerald
